One of the more fascinating things about the Alamo fort is the diversity of its defenders. The men and women who fought protecting it came from several different backgrounds and were of different ages. Some were local to Texas, while there were other fighters from all over the United States, including New Jersey, Rhode Island, Ohio, and the south. Other defenders were from England, Scotland, Ireland, and Germany. There was even at least one freed African slave defending the fort, making for a unique group of people focused on protecting the Alamo. You’ll be able to learn all about the Defenders of the Alamo when you visit.
